Campbell Hooper advises on major mixed-use regeneration in Medway

17 November 2008

Campbell Hooper is advising Berkeley First Limited on the waterside development of a 20 acre site at Victory Pier, Gillingham, Kent.

The award-winning provider of specialist residential accommodation plans to regenerate the former chemical plant site by constructing over 800 flats, houses and apartments, student accommodation for over 600 students together with shops, restaurants, hotel and leisure facilities.

Within the last 10 months, Campbell Hooper has advised on a Nominations Agreement with the University of Kent for the provision of the student accommodation alongside an operating and finance deal as well as development arrangements for the provision of the hotel and supermarket facilities.

Regeneration Partner, Peter Stockdale comments: "Victory Pier is four-square on our regeneration focus.  We have journeyed with the client through site acquisition, the site remediation and planning processes and with the recent completion of the university, hotel and retail signings, Berkeley First is well placed to consider proceeding with the rest of the project, even at this recessionary time."

Matthew Biddle, MD of Berkeley First, comments: "Campbell Hooper is an integral part of our team and have provided proactive and commercial advice throughout the project, which has demanded a wide breadth of expertise across the spectrum of regeneration.  At all times the team have been extremely responsive and accessible."
